This morning I had the pleasure of checking out Southsea’s newest breakfast establishment; Jam & Bowler… I’d seen mentions of this new venture on Facebook, then when our friends took a visit and shared their pictures online, my interest was spiked further…
A mention of sourdough toast sealed it for my fiancé, and a Sunday morning trip was planned. Located at the top end of Victoria Road South The Jam & Bowler Breakfast Rooms is an intimate venue with quirky details in an abundance.
Pegged as ‘a new breakfast experience’ they certainly delivered… Their menu, small enough to guarantee it’s all made fresh and to order, but with enough variety to ensure return visits, was beautifully printed on floral edged paper. (Additional eggsta’s hand written on another bit of paper)
We opted for the Breakfast Stack (toasted muffin, sweet chilli jam, avocado, bacon and a poached egg) and the Boston Beans on Toast (topped with an egg of course)
We hardly waited any time at all before mismatched crockery and scrumptious breakfast arrived… Both were delicious (Maxwell commented that a lick of butter on his toast would have been good, and mine could have done with a pinch of sea salt and a grinding of fresh black pepper) but considering it’s only been open a few weeks, we were really impressed.
In addition to the food the styling and decor is really cute too… we fell in love with the paisley wall paper and the addition of self serve water taps to each table is a cute idea too! Stylish hanging pendent and mason jar lighting, mismatched wooden chairs and a piano serving as a bar, it had enough quirk to be cool without trying too much to be ‘different’.
Friendly staff and a selection of imported cereals makes this new Southsea establishment a winning combination in my books… Plus anywhere that sells breakfast till 3pm is going to do alright if you ask me!
