Every year I make a point of trying to get down to the Southsea Food Festival. You can read previous posts here and here.

DSCF4213 DSCF4211 DSCF4212

As mentioned in the previous re-uni-on post, we paid a quick visit with the uni gal crowd on Saturday, but not being able to have a proper rummage I went back again on Sunday and had another look around.

DSCF4214 DSCF4210 DSCF4208

Unfortunately not all the stalls were the same (I had some amazing spring rolls from a little family run stall on Palmeston Road which weren’t there second time round) but I still managed to buy some nice cheese, some herbs, a bit of paella for lunch and some arancini balls for dinner!

Not a bad way to spend a Sunday afternoon… I even took myself a cheeky little tequila frozen cocktail home… hey it was hot!

Sorry I know I’m a little late with this one, but you’ll forgive me I promise when you see the photos!! (warning, there are a fair few!)

So July was a special month for us both. It was our 4 year anniversary on the 27th. Four years of being his girl and loving every minute of it. The day held extra special meaning as it also marked an official 1 year count down to the big day!

We will be getting married on 27/7/17 which will also be our 5 year anniversary! Ekkk… how exciting!

So… as we’re trying to be good with money (what with saving and all) we made a decision that there would be no indulgent holidays before the big day, but still wanting to mark the occasion in a special way we decided to make use of the ‘Cool Stays‘ vouchers Mumma Lo got us for Christmas.

Having never heard of Cool Stays before, the easiest way to describe it is a cross between Airbnb and Canopy & Stars!? Beautiful and unique accommodation that slightly trumps a normal get away.

DSCF4493 DSCF4502 DSCF4425

Not wanting to stray too far I opted for the stunning looking Knepp Safari (about an hour drive from home) and in particular the Little Owl Tipi. I just knew Maxwell would adore the bed (image a four poster bed but instead of normal posts in each corner, a stunning natural tree form!)

DSCF4399 DSCF4402

It was amazing (and so incredible luxurious and comfortable!) Literally one of those beds you just want to stay in all day and take regular naps (which I did)

Maxwell wanted the surprise to be kept so I liaised with the staff at both Knepp Safari’s & Cool Stays and eventually we were all sorted. Our day began how most of our special days begin, with a treat of a brunch at local favourite Southsea Coffee Company.

DSCF4397 DSCF4398

We then had to make a stop off to see my wonderful Grandad who had been rushed to hospital the night before. A few hours later, with well wishes and on a promise of a postcard we headed off for our anniversary adventure.

Maxwell presumed we were heading to Brighton so it was quite fun watching him try to figure it out as we ventured more into the countryside!

DSCF4424 DSCF4458

Knepp itself is one of the largest re-wilding projects in lowland Europe. Located in Sussex with over 3,500 acres you can encounter herds of wild ponies, cattle, deer and pigs as they roam across the estate. It really is a hidden natural gem!

With the sun beating down on us the whole way we excitedly parked up and headed to the ‘Go Down’ where we met Rachel & Ryan who showed us round the site and to our Tipi.

DSCF4501

The Little Owl Tipi was not so little after all but huge and magnificent!

And as for the site itself… wow!

DSCF4409 DSCF4412 DSCF4416

We fell in love with it instantly… The Camp Kitchen was brilliant, open to the elements on 3 sides, but with a fully equipped kitchen inside it completely captured the essence of a African safari camp kitchen! We loved it!

DSCF4560 DSCF4559 DSCF4505 DSCF4428 DSCF4426

The other thing we we really impressed with was the Go Down… a beautifully rustic and comfortable lounge area / shop / campsite bathroom! The shop was brilliantly stocked with their own wild range organic meat and sausages, organic free-range Knepp eggs, Knepp wild range honey, a selection of homemade jams and pickles, a selection of organic wine, beer and cider, local gingerbread and biscuits and artisan bread, it was wonderful.

The well worn sofa suite and wood burning stove made for a cosy corner to chill, read or charge your mobile, and as for the bathrooms, pure luxury! Home to two large shower rooms, two toilets and a large drying room. All were clean, beautifully decorated and stocked with complimentary organic toiletries!

DSCF4418 DSCF4419 DSCF4420

Lastly, and the thing we probably loved the most was the amazing Bathenon – open air & outdoor hot-water shower-baths. In two separate shacks, these two big old cast iron tubs sat amongst the pebbles were perfect for an evening candlelit bath under the stars! We know this to be true as we enjoyed one both evenings!

DSCF4526 DSCF4525 DSCF4518 DSCF4514 DSCF4511 DSCF4510 DSCF4508

The rest of the site was a dream too, random shepherds huts and yurts were dotted about the site away from the ‘normal campsite’.

DSCF4484 DSCF4486 DSCF4485 DSCF4487

There was also a Yoga Yurt on the other side of the Camp Kitchen which after a little investigation looked amazing and such a special place to practice yoga! They also have a no under 12s rule which when you’re on a romantic getaway is ideal!

DSCF4443 DSCF4453 DSCF4454 DSCF4431 DSCF4430

So back to our stay… we arrived, we unloaded the bags and threw out a blanket outside the tipi. We purchased some wine/beer from the Go Down and had our selves a lazy afternoon in the sun, playing games, giving gifts, eating and drinking. Anniversary perfection!

DSCF4462

As the sun set and temperatures dropped we headed to the Bathenon and ran a hot bath for two… armed with a big glass of wine we sunk below the bubbles and gazed up at the stars… it was pretty special.

When the water started to cool, we wrapped up warm and headed to the camp kitchen for some pasta dinner and another game… Making our way back across the site to our tipi we lit the bed side lanterns and snuggled under our egyptian cotton feather down duvet for an incredible nights sleep!

DSCF4474DSCF4480

The next morning after a lazy start and waking to shadows dancing on the walls of the tipi and the sounds of nature all around we made some dippy eggs, had a fresh morning out door shower, then set about going for a bit of a hike, taking advantage of one of the many recommended walking routes round the estate. We got lost pretty quickly but in the end made our way to the pub which was the end goal and enjoyed a pub lunch in the beer garden.

DSCF4490 DSCF4488 DSCF4497 DSCF4496 DSCF4494 DSCF4493 DSCF4499

Then it was time to head back, an afternoon nap and some more games. That evening we enjoyed another bath (this time with added cards), dinner in the camp kitchen and then takign advantage of the free wifi we enjoyed a film in the go down, then headed back to the tipi, whilst a noisy owl hooted from overhead.

DSCF4482 DSCF4537 DSCF4539 DSCF4541 DSCF4542

We checked out late the next morning and didn’t want to go! We loved it there so much and it really is such a unique and special place. We can whole heartedly recommend this place if you’re looking for a camping get away with a difference!

Once we finally were packed up and ready to leave we decided to stop off in Arundel on the way home and checked out lots of the antique shops and had lunch on the roof or Sparks Yard whilst there… It was the perfect way to end our lil’ getaway and celebration of 4 years together!

DSCF4562 DSCF4563 DSCF4564 DSCF4570 DSCF4578 DSCF4576

Oh… we also posted our save the date/invites…. but I’ll do a separate post on that v.soon!

A few weeks back my In-Laws to be went away for a weekend on a little thank you trip which we’d brought for them as a thank you for sending us all to Orlando.

We offered to house/cat/tortoise sit for them over the weekend.

It happened to be that really hot weekend in May when it was like summers from when you were a kid… beautiful hot sunny days, balmy nights and icecream!

I took a particular shine to Thomas the Tortoise (Billie I don’t think is so keen on me – haha) Thomas isn’t very well so we had to take extra time to hand feed him dandelion flowers which I really enjoyed.

Our Zissou besties also joined us and we enjoyed a somewhat disastrous yet amusing night out followed by some prime car booty fun and a pub lunch…

We left feeling like we’d had a proper little holiday and it made me long for a garden of our own!

Here’s a couple of snaps of our weekend… i didnt take many as I was too chilled doing…well… not a lot! 🙂

A Wedding Top Seven: “Plus Size” Brides

blogging, Bridal Blog, plus size, plus size bridal, Uk Blogger, Wedding Blog, Wedding dress shopping

a wedding top 7It has occurred to me since looking at dresses that the bridal fashion world (who am i kidding the fashion world in general) seems to be ignoring a huge percentage of their potential market by only using size 6/8 models for their bridal campaigns.

The Guardian stated that the average woman in the UK is 5ft 3in tall, weighs 11 stone (70.2kg) and wears a size 16.

So knowing that, why are all bridal models still one generic shape… it doesn’t make sense to me and it probably doesn’t to thousands of other women who identify as plus size. Even dresses which are advertised as plus sized are modelled on tall skinny models???

I would identify as plus size, I’ve got boobs (literally huge boobs) and a tummy and a bum and I can easily wear anything between a 12 & 18 depending on where I shop. Luckily I have to confidence to ignore what’s written on the label and instead concentrate on if the garment fits my shape.

So considering the stats I’m plus size and I’m ok with that. I also fall into the ‘average’ band and yet it’s occured to me recently that what is on offer to me when it comes to dresses may be limited because of the shape I am.

Type ‘plus size bridal’ into google (go on I dare you) and you’re greeted with stuffy/traditional/”flattering” and safe gowns that would literally have me running a mile.

Yes I want my dress to flatter my shape, but I don’t want to play it safe or compromise on style because of the size I am….

I am hoping that over time more dress designers will consider using a bigger variety of shaped women to advertise their mainstream gowns but until then and for this weeks Wedding Top Seven I want to shine the spotlight on seven stunning brides to dared to be different and plus size gowns that are actually beautiful.

Obviously this is my personal taste and I know won’t appeal to everyone but it’s a subject that I’m passionate about and I hope that when I come to do the whole dress things that I’m not limited or feel compromised just because I don’t look like the girls modelling them.

onlinelook6This stunning slip gown from Stone Fox Bride is simply beautiful. It’s from their Spring 2016 collection

Screen shot 2016-05-23 at 12.08.26This beautiful Oleg Organza gown from David’s Bridal is gorgeous!!!

This fun, flirty bell-sleeved number is another offering from Stone Fox Bride, again from their 2016 Spring collection.

3I’m not sure who the designer is for this gorgeous gown but I found it on plussize-outfits.com

Blogger Nicolette Mason dared to be different in this amazing gown which was custom made by Christian Siriano.

So there you have it… i hope if you consider yourself ‘average’ then these dresses will inspire you that you can be anything but average on your big day!

My Niece just turned two. I wanted to give her something really special to mark the occasion but with saving for the wedding I couldn’t really afford anything expensive so I do what I so often do in a situation like this, I made her a gift.

Lilly loves books and is also really into saying hi to all the family… “Hi Ami”, “Hi Max”, “Hi Grini” etc etc so I thought I could combine the two and make her a book featuring all the people she likes saying hi to. I thought it would be fun to draw her something, like a comic, but then I had a brainwave of using the photobook service thing you get in Asda and Tesco.

DSCF1801

Wanting to include all the family I used photos as a reference to come up with a scenario for all the Lowman’s and themed them on things Lilly likes to do… Ballet, reading, bubble beards etc

DSCF1813

Once all the drawings were complete (water colours on nice paper) I scanned them into the computer then started creating the actual book. I used Tesco’s online service and choose a 20″ square hardback option.

DSCF1804

It was really easy to do and cute as you could change the colours of the page and add text etc. I was really happy about how it turned out and would definitely do it again…

If you wanna see the whole thing in order I’ll share it below!

Easter Birthday Fun

I have been a busy girl of late, not only was it Easter (aka a few days off with my man) but I also celebrated my 32nd Birthday… all in all… a fun filled few days of much merriment and lots of very lovely people…

So… lets start at the beginning – Good Friday (and what a good Friday it was) After a lazy morning we headed to our favourite breakfast spot Southsea Coffee Co. I had a well loved and always delicious Tostada but I must admit I was a tad jealous of Maxwell’s Moroccan inspired special!

DSCF1602 DSCF1601

After that we decided to get off the island and head to the nearest bit of green we could think of… We decided on Lyndhurst (unfortunately it seemed we weren’t the only ones) After a bit of a queue we abandoned the car in a lay-by and strolled past car upon car into the nearby town.

DSCF1616 DSCF1603 DSCF1610 DSCF1612

A well deserved pint and a stroll round the vintage and charity shops a few happy hours were spent and we left with a pasty and chips in search of somewhere pretty to sit.

DSCF1617 DSCF1618 DSCF1620 DSCF1624

We enjoyed a late lunch looking out over the stunning New Forest and then headed back home ignoring the still queuing traffic. Once back in local territory we headed to Still & West and enjoyed a drink or two watching the sun set over Gosport.

DSCF1630

On Saturday I spent the majority of the day cleaning in preparation for a dinner party with a few of my lovely friends. 8 of us dined around our little dining table and a blooming lovely time was had by all… such a lovely time that I kind of forgot to take many photos. We got through an obscene amount of booze and enjoyed a rather scrumptious raclette!

Screen shot 2016-04-06 at 20.43.02 Screen shot 2016-04-06 at 20.43.22 Screen shot 2016-04-06 at 20.43.37On Sunday (Easter Sunday obviously) we woke (a little fuzzy headed) and after clearing away the bottles and party remains we started our day how any good Easter Sunday should begin… with chocolate eggs, disney films and a blanket on the sofa. Clear blue skies and sunshine teased us from the other side of the curtains and we gave into it’s promises, grabbed our bikes and headed outside to blow the cobwebs (ahem woozy heads) away.

DSCF1632

I noticed a few days earlier that we’d missed our non-date anniversary (the first day we spent together back on 9/3/12) so in honour of the day my oh-so-romantic fiancé planned a tribute to that day. As the Hayling Ferry is no more, we went for the next best option, the Gosport Ferry….

DSCF1634 DSCF1661 DSCF1652 DSCF1647 DSCF1638 DSCF1636

Unbeknownst to me a hot soup and prosecco picnic had been packed and looking back towards The spinnaker Tower, nestled behind some plants we took shelter from the winds (hello storm Katie) and had our selves a belated non-date reminiscent date! I have to admit, I think that lying outside, with the sun warming your face is one of the best feelings ever!

DSCF1667 DSCF1670 DSCF1671

In the evening a few more special friends joined me at Sant Yago‘s new underground speak-easy-esq bar for a few cocktails and more good times! Yay to good friends!   ❤

Easter Monday… (and we’re nearly there I promise) started with a lie in. Storm Katie was a feisty little lady last night resulting in not much sleep… Maxwell, concerned about the welfare of his various boats and vehicles suggested we head to Emsworth, I suggested seen we were in that neck of the woods we make a pitstop in the awesome Sausage and Mash pub.

DSCF1675 DSCF1676 DSCF1674The boats (Maxwell’s own and various ones he’s working on) were all fine, luckily escaping Katie’s windy clutches. Whilst having a mooch around we caught up with Maxwell’s friend who was woking out on the water and considering the wild weather last night the Mill Pond was utterly still and everywhere was ever-so peaceful.

DSCF1672 DSCF1673You wouldn’t exactly call it warm though so we headed for the Sussex brewery to warm up and enjoyed a couple of games and a couple of bangers (and mash). In the eve Pappa Lo & the lovely Rosilyn popped over for a cuppa and to deliver a birthday present.

Finally, after dragging it out all weekend, the big day had arrived! Whoo Hoo…. Unfortunately my weird new morning allergy hadn’t got the memo so woke me up at 6am… I escaped to the sofa, blanket in tow, so not to wake my sleeping lover (as I do most mornings) Luckily I managed to get a little extra sleep and was re woken a few hours later in a much more pleasant way. We started the day by opening a few cards and some pressies…

DSCF1677 DSCF1678Presents done we showered, dressed and headed out for a late brekkie, this time at Jam & Bowler. From there it was onwards to some more charity shops in a bid to add to our ever growing wedding collection of bits & bobs! (Exciting)

DSCF1682DSCF1683Unfortunately Cosham proved rubbish so we headed to Winchester… After a bit of better luck the rain arrived so it only seem right to take refuge inside Maison Blanc and dry off with the help of a savoury croissant and a slice of cake. (It’s a Birthday so calories don’t count ok)

DSCF1684 DSCF1685 DSCF1688From there, a few more shops then onwards to our favourite Winchester Pub, The Black Boy…

DSCF1691

Nestled on a beat up old table next to the fire, surround by the weird and wonderful, we enjoyed a few (too many) glasses of wine and some games (hello old pacman)

DSCF1695 DSCF1699 DSCF1689DSCF1692 DSCF1701By this stage it was dark outside and I was a little tipsy, Maxwell said he had one last surprise and I had 5 mins to finish my drink… Off we headed and we ended up at the awesome River Cottage Canteen!

I had never been before by by golly it was good! By some strange coincidence it was also Veg Out Night, their monthly vegetarian only evening. If you haven’t been before I 100% recommend you do!

DSCF1718 DSCF1717 DSCF1702

We had an amazing dinner and literally cleared our plates! Also, (because I feel it needs saying) the food was SO reasonably priced!!

DSCF1706 DSCF1707 DSCF1708 DSCF1710 DSCF1711 DSCF1714 DSCF1715Utterly stuffed and content Maxwell had one last surprise, he had brought me (with help from some lovely family members) a super cool Fugifilm intax mini 90 (wow) and gave me the most beautiful card… (I 100% promise it didn’t make me cry……)

DSCF1709 DSCF1713 DSCF1712 So there you have it…. my utterly wonderful birthday surrounded by good friends, the love of my life and good food. What’s not to like!   ❤  Same time next year?DSCF1703

It’s weird, because I want to blog lots, but everything I want to blog about seems to be wedding related and I’m determined not to become one of those brides-to-be which cant talk about anything else. So my solution is I will be launching some new blog series so not to bore you all to death! ha ha

Now anyone who knows me know’s I love to cook (and whom am I kidding eat too) As a devoted pinner I’m forever pinning divine looking recipes with the good intention of recreating them at home… they normally get forgotten though so I thought it would be fun to share 3 recipes with you that get my mouth watering… Hopefully they’ll inspire me and you to mix things up a bit in the kitchen.

So here goes…. first up:

Farro Risotto with Acorn Squash and Kale courtesy of Love and Olive Oil.

farro-risotto1Now I don’t know about you but I’d never heard of Farro before, apparently it’s a kind of grain: think quinoa, cous cous, bulgar wheat etc…

I was just sold by the sumptuous photo and the hearty appeal of the winter warmer of a veggie main meal (My lover is a vegetarian so expect lots of veggie ideas)

You can find the original recipe here.

Next up:

African Chicken Peanut Stew by Simply Recipes

african-chicken-peanut-stew-vertical-a-1600

Now I LOVE a bit (hmmm lot) of peanut butter, like all good people do, I also love satay so the idea of a hot and spicy peanut soup sounds absolutely amazing to me!!

head over to Simply Recipes to read the recipe and have a go yourself… Any veggie’s amongst you could substitute the chicken for tofu or root vegetables!?

Lastly is:

Classic Pesto toast with shrimp and garlic which I found on the Everything Fabulous blog

tumblr_m06au8gPTO1qjhe3mo1_1280This screams lazy girly dinner in to me and something I know my friend Becca would adore… sweet garlicky toast, topped with amazing homemade pesto and grilled shrimps (or prawns as us brits call them) Yum double YUM! Check out the recipe here.
