With time back on my hand, I’m looking forward to start these up again…
I present the insanely talented, master of the carved crayons… among other things.
Diem Chau, the artist behind these clever articles, comes from Vietnam originally but moved to America in the 80’s.
Chau is a BFA graduate from Cornish College of the Arts and has received an Artist Trust GAP Grant and a PONCHO Artist-in-Residence Award. Her work has been
exhibited all around the world
“Chau combines common mediums and common means to create delicate vignettes of fleeting memory, gesture and form, resulting in works that combine egalitarian sensibility and minimalist restraint. Her work touches on the value of Storytelling, Myths and its ability to connect us to each other through cultural and humanistic similarities. Chau’s current work drifts into new territory by exploring the periphery of the narrative, moments forgotten and faded, or too brief to retain.”
The carved crayons are probably what she is know best for, but she also mixes embroidery and ceramics into her clever and beautiful work.
So what do you think? clever huh?! did you know she also does portrait commissions in the carved crayon style!?!? find out more about her by visiting her website and if any of you are nr chicago you should check out the exhibition below…. it’s bound to be amazing!
